linesman's mistake
Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 11:49AM a linesman witnesses a player trip another player and stops play to asses the penalty as if he were a referee. because the linesman can't call most penalties, and play has been stopped, what should the referee do in this situation?

That's not one of the penalties that a linesman is allowed to call, so my guess is that in the ensuing referee huddle, the head referee will verbally abuse the linesman for a while, maybe smack him around a bit, and the faceoff will be at the closest faceoff spot to where the puck was when the play was blown down with no penalty being assessed.
Explain to the coaches that the liney is a noob. Then discuss the infraction with said noob and other officials to determine if in fact the liney called a good penalty
